A new school year brings clean notebooks, fresh supplies, and plenty of excitement! Along with a few natural jitters! Whether your child is stepping into kindergarten or navigating high school, hearing encouragement from those who’ve walked the path before can make all the difference.
At The Oaks at Fairmount our residents love connecting with the community. We recently asked them what advice they’d pass along to kids heading back to school this year. Here is the heartful (and funny!) wisdom they shared:
1. Kindness Comes First
"Be polite to each other."
"Do lots of reading and be kind to people—be kind to everybody."
Simple kindness never goes out of style. A warm smile or inviting a classmate to sit together can transform someone's entire school day.
2. Build Good Friendships & Study Hard
"Find them some good friends right off the bat... and stick with them."

"Obey your parents and study hard. Be respectful to everybody."
Choosing supportive friends gives kids a strong foundation, while steady study habits help build confidence in the classroom.
3. Enjoy Being a Kid
"Enjoy the life you have now, 'cause it gets more complicated when you get older and be happy!"
"Don't get old, that's when my troubles started!"
School and grades matter, but so does taking time to play, laugh, and enjoy childhood before life gets busy!
4. Respect Your Teachers & Keep Learning
"Be nice to teachers and get a good grade."
"Expose yourself to everything you can! Learn about all that's out there. Books and the written word will take you everywhere."
